WiSo Engineering Appointed a New CEO

15.12.2025

WiSo Engineering, one of the largest energy park builders in the Baltic States, has a new CEO – Risto Virveste, an energy engineer with extensive experience in high-voltage infrastructure, power grids and energy storage solutions. Under his leadership, strategic energy solutions ranging from high-voltage transmission to large-scale solar and storage parks are being developed and built across the Baltics, improving energy security in the region.

WiSo Engineering has a number of projects in the pipeline in both Estonia and Latvia. In addition to the energy parks already completed, 20 projects with a total capacity of more than 300 MW are underway. The company has built and is building energy projects for a number of major international clients, such as the Estonian energy company Evecon, the Swedish investment fund Niam Infrastructure, French solar energy producer Corsica Sole as well as the international investment fund Mirova.

Risto Virveste, the current Head of High Voltage and Grid Integration, who has more than 10 years of experience in the energy sector, became the new CEO of WiSo Engineering. “WiSo Engineering makes projects that have a real impact on the energy security of Estonia and the Baltic States – high-voltage solutions, battery parks and large solar farms, which are solutions that help ensure grid operation, stability and independent power generation,” he said.

“As the CEO, my goal is to keep the focus very clear: we work professionally, deliver on agreements, complete complex projects efficiently and we all can be proud of what we’ve done,” Virveste added.

The portfolio of WiSo Engineering includes a number of solar parks and large-scale battery parks, with the construction of which the company contributes to the entire energy system of the Baltics. For example, one of the largest battery farm complexes in continental Europe, consisting of two battery farms with a total capacity of 200 MW and a total storage capacity of 400 MWh, is under construction with the participation of WiSo Engineering. The first of these, the Kiisa Battery Park, was connected to the grid on 1 October 2025 and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. Construction of the second battery farm is underway and its implementation is planned for the second half of 2026.

Battery parks are an important facility for the energy sector in Estonia and Europe as a whole, as they make it possible to regulate grid frequency. In the event of an increase or decrease in grid frequency, batteries help to quickly store or generate electricity to offset the effects of the change.

The solar park projects of WiSo Engineering include one of the largest solar parks in the Baltic States at Kirikmäe, which was completed in October 2024 and has a generating capacity of more than 77 MW. The large solar park was completed in just six months. The Kirikmäe solar park, which is estimated to cover the annual electricity consumption of 35,000 households, covers an area of 110 hectares and a total of 117,600 solar panels were installed.
